A Second Home by Bixia Chen ('18)

Eighth Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, is a place the Chinese community built with their own hands. Everyone put forth their effort, culture, traditions and virtues to build our own Chinese paradise in this alien land. In 2009, when I immigrated to New York, Eighth Avenue was mostly residences and we could only find one restaurant, located several blocks away. However, over the past five years, I became a tiny ant in this whole population of 87,400 Chinese people who live on Eighth Avenue now.

Yesterday Once More by Dingyi Liu ('17)

Last summer I went back to China. I still remember how excited I was. I had all the beautiful images in my head: hanging out with friends, being drunk at night and singing songs to get home, talking to friends about funny things, doing what we used to do, and going to travel someplace new together. I finally arrived at the airport in China in the afternoon. “Already four years,” I said to myself. I called a taxi to get home. On the way home, I watched the scenery roll by the cab window. It didn’t change a lot, and I could still remember what was there.

REVIEW: VALLEY OF ASTONISHMENT by Anna Marienko ('15)

Throughout the performance the actors reach out to the members of the audience, interact with them and strive to make them a part of the theatrical story-telling process.

A Night All About Beckett by Klara Kurti ('17)

It almost felt as if I had fallen into a deep sleep but my mind was still awake and ready to process whatever was coming next.

A Piddling Peek into a Poet’s Life & The Writer’s Foundry at SJC by Tenzin Yingsal ('16)

For me, mostly, creative writing has been a private affair. I’ve always written, but rarely have I shared my work. It took over two years of marriage to even permit my husband to get a peek at poetry (when I finally did he read them on the subway and missed so many stops that I had to pick him up with our car).

The Summer Chronicles: The Girls, The Beaches, & The Mojitos by Klara Kurti ('17)

Towards mid-July we finally decided it was time for us to leave our family and begin traveling by ourselves. We packed our duffle bags and hit the road. Since Albania is mostly known for transportation with vans (not in a creepy way), we decided to hitch hike on the highway until we found a van that was heading towards our destination. Our first destination was to go south and see the coastline of Greece and Albania. The trip would take about five hours, but it had always been a dream of mine to go there.
