Over the summer, I had the opportunity to catch up with a good friend of mine and former ACES (2010) classmate, Mohamed El Amri. What I Learned Over the Summer by Jannatul Rahman ('16)

This summer I participated in an internship called Exploring Health Careers (EHC) at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. While in high school, I participated in another program offered by the Office of Minorities from the Downstate Medical Center. The network that I established during my time in high school led me to find out about and participate in this new program offered over the summer.

2013 ACES Barbeque by Juan Cerda ('16)

Among many of the educational benefits offered by the ACES Program at St. Joseph's College, there is a special date of the year when students are given a charming welcome to the college community. That is the ACES Barbeque Party. By uniting past ACES students with the new freshman class, this event demonstrates that relationships and the academic resources drawn from them are elemental for the success of every undergraduate student.

A ​Recipe for Home: "Yuanxiao" by Lina Chen ('16)

Yuanxiao has always been an extremely important part of Chinese culture. Traditionally, no matter how far we are from home or how busy we are with work, we have to put aside our work and travel back home to unite with family during each Chinese New Year. For thousands of years, yuanxiao has stood as a symbol for family unity and strength. We eat it on the fifteenth of the first month of our lunar calendar, right before each one of us has to onces again leave the hometown and return to our busy lives.

Some Advice and Encouragement for the Incoming Class

Everybody, upon finishing their freshman year at college, encounters a range of academic and social experiences and challenges that can be reflected on. The initial plan for this article was to ask a number of students about their first year experience at St. Joseph’s, being a part of ACES, and any advice they might have to the incoming freshmen. To have the questions that were created for the interview answered, a survey was given out to randomly selected ACES students in late April.
